Unbound Gravel Course 2022 Guide

The official Unbound Gravel Course 2022 has yet to be released but that doesn’t mean we can’t use local knowledge and public information to piece together the course.

**UPDATE: Official courses are now live and are below.**

How We Know

Just like we said above, we don’t really know, and we won’t know until the official map is released. However, being from Emporia and riding these roads constantly there are only so many ways to connect some of these sections and also the beauty of the Flint Hills. Coach Garret Seacat has also been a part of Unbound in some way, either riding or doing support, every year of the event but one. So we have been around a bit and have a great grasp of the area. It’s a little late now but if you are in need of coaching for Unbound Gravel in the future we are here for you!

Unbound 200 Course

As of today, 5/17/2022  the official course is out. Our guess at the map was almost spot on but to help riders we have removed the old “guess” of the course and now have the official course below.

This course, which we believe to be very close to the real thing, covers some iconic sectors of gravel in the Flint Hills. This includes:

  • The Towers Climb – Mile 17
  • Road to the Cattle Pins – Mile 25
  • AT&T Tower Climb – Mile 33
  • Teterhill Climb – Mile 47
  • The Bitch Climb – Mile 60
  • Rocky Ford Bridge – Mile 99
  • Texico Hill Climb (Reverse) – Mile 141
  • The Judge – Mile 149
  • Bird Bridge – Mile 190
  • Highland Hill – Mile 200

This makes for a hard start to the second 100 miles as you can see from the elevation profile. But if you can make it to the second checkpoint you should be in a great place to finish with a much milder finishing 50.

Unbound 100 Course

Much like the 200 course, the 100 uses similar roads with a quick connection that removes the farther south 100 miles. You will climb the AT&T Tower climb but won’t drop down south and will continue on east along the top of the Texico Climb area before dropping down it.
